Gerald Eugene “Pop” Gainey, 89, passed away Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at his Yulee residence.

Mr. Gainey was born April 11, 1933, in St. George, GA and moved to Yulee in 1957. He was a member of Hedges Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and retired from Commercial Carriers /Ryder Truck Lines where he was a car hauler. After his retirement he worked for a few years at Yulee Elementary as a custodian.

He was predeceased by his wife, Jean Gainey who passed away in 2011; by his parents, Clayton and Matilda Gainey; and by his sisters, Barbara Ann Yonn, Joyce Vivian Page, Francis Beatrice Gainey, and his twin sister who died shortly after birth; his brothers, William “Bill” Clayton Jr., Joseph Lee, Tommy Elvin, and Johnny Calvin.

Survivors include a son, Jerry Gainey (Eva); three daughters, Donna Gray (Walter), Pam Page (Mike) and Kristi Kato (Larry), all of Yulee. Also surviving are his brothers, Marion Gainey (Diana), Merle Gainey, Ray Gainey, Mitchell Gainey (Sharon), and Mike Gainey (Debbie) ; nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pop loved his family, he loved fishing, a good home cooked meal and sitting on his front porch and waving at those who passed by. He was a friendly gentleman and loved by all who knew him. It could be said that he never met a stranger.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Monday, April 3, in the Stephens Chapel at Green Pine Funeral Home with David Tate officiating. Interment will follow in Green Pine Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:30 p.m. until the time of service Monday at the funeral home.
